“After struggling for 25 years with X-rays, scans, and physiotherapy on the NHS for lower back pain, I decided to go down the other route and booked in with Dan. I cannot praise him highly enough! The pain I had in my lower back had become unbearable but within just a few sessions, Dan had me feeling great! Very professional and understanding of any issues I have had. Nothing is ever too much trouble and I have recommended him to all my family and friends.”

Back pain can be caused by structural issues or an injury but is more commonly mechanical in nature. We believe that it is crucial to find and treat the cause of the pain, not just manage the symptoms. It is also common to experience pain and stiffness, often known as ‘referred’ pain, elsewhere in the body, especially in the pelvis and lower limbs. However, regardless of its origin, we will always do our best to ensure that your pain is fully resolved.

Our team of experienced physiotherapists treat a wide range of conditions but some of the more common back problems that we routinely offer relief from are:

  • Joint Injuries – Problems with joints are very common and can have many possible causes. Some of the more common issues we treat include Intervertebral Joint Disorders, Facet Joint Pain, and Sacroiliac Joint Disorders.
  • Radiculopathy – A condition caused by compression, inflammation and/or injury to a spinal nerve root. Pressure on the nerve root can result in pain, aching, weakness, numbness, or a tingling sensation that travels or radiates to other areas of the body that are served by that nerve. Sciatica is a common type of radiculopathy. Wherever this compression or irritation occurs, these types of symptoms may last for just a few days or weeks but in some cases can last for many months or years. However, regardless of how long they have been there, these types of symptoms can usually be resolved.
  • Osteoarthritis (OA) – This is the main form of arthritis and is known as the ‘wear and tear’ of a joint. In the back and neck, the protective cartilage covering the joint surfaces can wear away, resulting in swelling, pain, stiffness, aching, and limited movement of the joints.
  • Muscle & Ligament Injuries – These include strains and sprains, which can occur from overstretching, twisting, or lifting something improperly. Such movements may trigger spasms in the back muscles, which are usually painful. Repetitive activities, or sitting for long periods during the day can also cause Piriformis Syndrome, another condition which requires treatment.
  • Spondylosis – Refers to the general degeneration of the spine associated with the normal ‘wear and tear’ of the protective cartilage covering the joint surfaces that occurs as people get older, often resulting in swelling, pain, stiffness, aching, and limited movement of the joints.
  • Herniated or Ruptured Discs – Occurs when the intervertebral discs become compressed and bulge outward (herniation) or rupture, causing low back pain, often in conjunction with a radiculopathy.
  • Kyphosis – An exaggerated, forward rounding of the back, with a variety of causes, there being three main types, Postural, Scheuermann’s and Congenital
  • Skeletal Irregularities – These are congenital anomalies of the spine including conditions such as Scoliosis and Lordosis.
