The wrist and hand are an incredibly complex and versatile system of bones, joints, ligaments, and tendons that we use thousands of times a day to carry out many functional activities. It’s no surprise then that wrist and hand pain can be among the most distracting on a day to day basis.

“Please accept my true and heartfelt thanks for your continued support and efforts in my rehabilitation process after a nasty incident with an HGV on the motorway. I have found your professional and moral support to be of great personal value, in giving me the tools to keep up the excellent work that you have done for me.

Having experienced physiotherapy from our local NHS many years ago, to be honest I was not expecting anything much at all but for my own quality of life, I was willing to give it a go. Boy am I glad I did!

Within a few sessions, I felt amazing compared to post-accident and this only got better as our sessions carried on. With plenty of homework for me as well, I feel thankful that I managed to find a gem of an outfit with you.

Kind regards”

Dominic T, Accrington

Wrist and hand pain can result from an acute injury, such as a fall onto an outstretched hand, or can be a pain that has developed gradually as a result of overuse. If you have pain or stiffness in your wrist or hand, you will be less likely to use your hand, which will further reduce your strength and dexterity, getting in the way of everyday life.

Our team of experienced physiotherapists treat a wide range of conditions but some of the more common wrist and hand problems that we routinely offer relief from are:

  • Wrist TendinopathyRefers to the inflammation of a tendon within the wrist, typically causing swelling, and pain. This can be severe and debilitating, and may result in a significantly reduced range of movement in both the wrist and hand.
  • De Quervain’s Tenosynovitis – A painful condition affecting the tendons on the thumb side of your wrist, which cause pain when you turn your wrist, grip, or squeeze.
  • Osteoarthritis (OA)– This is the main form of arthritis and is known as the ‘wear and tear’ of a joint. The wrist and hand are especially susceptible due to their constant use during everyday activities, such that the protective cartilage covering the joint surfaces can wear away, resulting in swelling, pain, stiffness, aching, and limited movement of the joints.
  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) – The compression of a nerve as it travels through the carpal tunnel on the inside of the wrist, resulting in pain, aching, weakness, numbness, or a tingling sensation that travels or radiates into the fingers and thumb. These types of symptoms may last for just a few days or weeks but in some cases can last for many months or years. However, regardless of how long they have been there, these types of symptoms can often be resolved.
  • Trigger Finger – This occurs when the tendon in the finger or thumb thickens and gets caught when the finger is bent towards the palm, resulting in a painful clicking or locking.
