I am a qualified Registered General Nurse training at Withington Hospital 1980-83 (NMC registration number 80Y1786E). In the early 90’s I was a practice nurse and became the woman’s health nurse specialist. I qualified as a Family Planning Nurse in 1993 and developed an interest in sexual function/disorder which developed as I studied at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) 1999-2001 and obtained a Post Graduate Diploma in Psychosexual Therapy followed by an MSc in the same subject with distinction in 2002.
In 2015 I approached and worked with UCLAN to reintroduce the subject of Psychosexual Therapy back onto the offered curriculum and became part of the university course leadership team until 2024.
I have been Principal Therapist and Service Lead for the NHS Psychosexual Service since 2002 which has a geographical footprint covering all of Lancashire and Blackpool. Since 2002 I have been significantly involved as a key trainer for psychosexual therapy trainees studying in academic establishments across the UK.
I am a senior accredited therapist with the College of Sex and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) (membership registration number 1862) and registered supervisor of psychosexual therapist within the service team but also external to the NHS.
I am a Registered Principal Trainer in Foundation Sexual Problems for the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare of The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and have lectured nationally on the subject of sexual disorder since 2004 for the NHS and also the pharmaceutical industry.
